Former president Mauricio Macri, during his participation in Expoagro 2025 in San Nicolás, expressed his disagreement with the new agreement with the International Monetary Fund proposed by the government of Javier Milei and criticized the manner in which this pact is intended to be sealed through a Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU). According to Macri, this measure "does not help to generate trust" and advocated for debating the 2025 Budget in Congress to provide greater transparency. The former president highlighted that the current government manages public accounts according to the law enacted in 2023 during the administration of the Frente de Todos, and pointed out that it is necessary to avoid tragedies like the one that occurred in Bahía Blanca, where the flooding left 16 fatal victims and severe material damages.
In relation to the tragedy in Bahía Blanca, Macri urged the government to dialogue with the governor of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, to coordinate assistance measures, emphasizing the importance of state presence in situations like this. He also stressed the need to include the Budget in the agenda of extraordinary sessions and to promote public works as a preventive measure to avoid future catastrophes. Avoiding making electoral definitions, Macri mentioned that he would postpone decisions about his political future until after his return from Bologna at the end of March.
During his visit to Expoagro, Macri greeted various authorities including Chief of Cabinet Guillermo Francos, several governors, and a Radical senator, highlighting the importance of dialogue even with those with whom it may not be pleasant to converse. When asked about the DNU, the former president was emphatic in stating that this measure reveals institutional weakness and does not contribute to generating trust in the current context.
